EINSTEIN CONDAMNE LE FASCISME ISRAÉLIEN EN 1948

Cette lettre a été écrite par Albert Einstein et d’autres leaders juifs américains et publiée dans le New-York Times, le 2 décembre 1948 :

« L’émergence d’un nouveau parti politique dans le jeune état d’Israël est un des événements politiques récents les plus perturbants. « Le Parti de la Liberté » est très proche dans son organisation, ses méthodes, sa philosophie politique et son pouvoir d’attrait sur les masses des partis fascistes et Nazi.

La récente visite aux États-Unis de Menachem Begin, le chef de ce parti, a été prévue pour donner l’impression à l’électorat israélien que les Américains soutiennent ce parti et aussi pour renforcer ses liens politiques avec l’aile conservatrice sionistes aux États-Unis… Il est inconcevable que ceux qui s’opposent au fascisme dans le monde entier, s’ils sont correctement informés des antécédents politiques et des visées de M. Begin, ajoutent leur nom et leur appui au mouvement que ce dernier représente.

Avant que des dommages irréparables ne se produisent, …. la population américaine doit être informée des activités et des objectifs de M. Begin et de son mouvement.

C’est dans l’action qu’un parti terroriste montre son véritable caractère. De ses actions passées, nous pouvons appréhender ce qui est à venir. Un exemple inconcevable est leur comportement dans le village arabe de Deir Yassin. Le 9 avril dernier, les bandes terroristes (de Begin) ont attaqué ce village paisible, tué la plupart de ses habitants, soit 240 personnes, incluant hommes, femmes et enfants et gardé quelques survivants en captivité qu’ils ont ensuite paradés dans les rues de Jérusalem. La communauté juive dans son ensemble a été horrifiée de cela… Mais les terroristes, loin d’être inconfortables de leurs actes, étaient fiers de ce massacre largement publicisé et ils ont invité les correspondants étrangers présents au pays à voir sur le terrain le massacre à Deir Yassin. Nous, soussignés exhortons tous ceux qui sont concernés à ne pas soutenir cette récente manifestation de racisme. »

Benyamin Netanyahu, actuel Premier ministre, défend les mêmes brutales politiques mises de l’avant par Begin en 1948. C’est pourquoi, tout comme Einstein, nous devons avoir le courage de dénoncer les crimes de guerre israéliens, le nettoyage ethnique et l’oppression du peuple palestinien.

EINSTEIN CONDEMNED ISRAELI FASCISM IN 1948

The following letter was written by Albert Einstein and other leading Jewish Americans and published in the New York Times on Dec. 2, 1948 :

"Among the most disturbing political phenomena of our times is the emergence in the newly created state of Israel of the "Freedom Party", a political party closely akin in its organization, methods, political philosophy and social appeal to the Nazi and Fascist parties.

The current visit of Menachem Begin, leader of this party, to the United States is obviously calculated to give the impression of American support for his party in the coming Israeli elections and to cement political ties with conservative Zionist elements in the United States. … It is inconceivable that those who oppose fascism throughout the world, if correctly informed as to Mr. Begin’s political record and perspectives, could add their names and support to the movement he represents.

Before irreparable damage is done …the American public must be informed as to the record and objectives of Mr. Begin and his movement.

It is in its actions that (this) terrorist party betrays its real character ; from its past actions we can judge what it may be expected to do in the future. A shocking example was their behavior in the Arab village of Deir Yassin. On April 9, (Begin’s) terrorist bands attacked this peaceful village, killed most of its inhabitants - 240 men, women, and children - and kept a few of them alive to parade as captives through the streets of Jerusalem. Most of the Jewish community was horrified at the deed….But the terrorists, far from being ashamed of their act, were proud of this massacre, publicized it widely, and invited all the foreign correspondents present in the country to view the heaped corpses and the general havoc at Deir Yassin.

The undersigned therefore are urging all concerned not to support this latest manifestation of fascism."

Benyamin Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister today, stands for the same brutal policies that Begin championed in 1948. Therefore we must, like Einstein, have the courage to denounce Israeli war crimes, ethnic cleansing and oppression of the Palestinian People.
